Do THEY see YOUR name everywhere?

I recently wrote about 'sneezers'. These are the people who do more than anyone to grow your business. They are your successful clients who are extremely influential. When they talk, your prospects listen. And before you know it, because of them, your training business is BOOMING!

Serious about success? Here's how to get started!

No matter what your life and business looks like right now, you can use these tips to get more from both. Enjoy!

1) Script your future

I do this one all the time. I'll pick a day in the future and write it out exactly as I want it. Sometimes it's a month or two from now. Sometimes it's 5 years. What I do is write the script as if I'm journaling. In other words, I'll write out in as much detail as possible exactly what I want to happen on that day in the future. Mine usually involve me being on a vacation or driving a new car (I LOVE cars!) or starting a new business or selling a businesss. You get the idea.

When you script, the more specific the better. What are you wearing? Who is with you? Where are you? What's the setting? What does the couch you're sitting on look like? What does the food you're eating taste like?

I did a private coaching call the other day with a woman who I gave this advice to a year ago. And just like magic her life today looks EXACTLY like what she scripted! Yes, scripting is extraordinarily powerful. But don't take my word for it. Try the exercise for yourself and see.

Oh, and have you ever heard the saying, 'be careful what you wish for because you just might get it?' Well, 'they' have got it wrong. In reality, YOU WILL get what you wish for, so be sure it's what you want!

2) Decide what you will do with all your time off

Now I realize this might seem a little crazy to some of you right now. But if you don't know where you're going, you'll never get there. So give some serious thought to what you are going to be doing when you have other trainers working for you. If you can take off every Monday and Friday afternoon what will you be doing? Playing golf? Going to the movies?

Why do this? Because the more you make it real to your sub-consicous mind the sooner you will make it your reality.

3) Go to your local bookstore and stare at the headlines on the covers of the fitness magazines
It's your job to know what your target market is MOST interested in. And I'll tell you right now, NOBODY is more in touch with what the public wants than the magazines. You might not agree with what they are writing about, but they will give you great ideas so you can easily:

- Create info-products
- Come up with interesting topics for newsletters and articles
- Develop engaging seminars and presentations

4) Become an awesome public speaker

I’m often asked by Fitness Professionals how they should go about getting booked for talks. When I tell them to pick up the phone and call some they pass out at the very thought of having to make a "cold call." When they come back to their senses I gently explain most of these groups meet weekly and they need a speaker at each meeting. That means they need someone willing to come in and speak for free in a bad way! Believe me; they are dying to hear from you.

And they are super easy to find as well. If you belong to a networking group of some sort I can almost guarantee you they’d love to have you speak. Ask people such as your clients what groups they belong to and whether or not they have speakers. All sorts of religious organizations have meetings with speakers. Search the internet. It’s simple!

5) Run your own Fitness Boot Camp(s) so you can leverage your time.

Why don't they listen?

As you may already know, last weekend I spoke at the AFPA conference. And, as per usual, it's always interesting to meet fitness professionals and see where they are at in terms of their dreams and aspirations.

I gave three presentations. One on sales, one on publicity and one on marketing information products. They all went incredibly well and I think I did a damn good job. And since I was able to sprinkle in the success stories of some of my clients and customers, proving what I was teaching works, I hope that the attendees will actually take action and do something with that information.

But you never know. I hate to affirm the negative, but chances are most of them will fail to take any sort of action whatsoever.

Why is that? Why do some take massive action towards their dreams and others get back from a seminar and do nothing?

Obviously, without knowing every person's specific situation it's impossible to be accurate. But as you know from working with clients and hearing the same old tired excuses from prospects, people really don't want to succeed. If they really wanted to they'd do the necessar work, right?

So, the reasons people fail to take action are numerous:
- Fear of success
- Fear of failure
- Lazy
- Lack of vision
- Self-limiting belief systems
- Lack of self-confidence
- Low self-esteem

Oddly enough, you'll also find people who love to do things the hard way. You could literally give them a roadmap to success and they wouldn't want to follow it. While it could be any of the above reasons for that attitude I'd have to offer you another reason - ego.

Well, there's that and the sub-conscious belief many, many people in this country have that you have to work hard ...put your nose to the grindstone...the only way to get something done right is to do it yourself...and the list goes on and on and on. What so many people, especially fitness professionals, fail to realize is that the people who make the most work the least.

I'm going to write that again because you really need to read it again.

How do you feel about that? Really think about that one. Does it make you angry?
Happy? Are you in disbelief?

Somebody somewhere, at this very moment, is sitting on a beach earning 100 times what you do. They're relaxing and you're working.

Now that you have a visual, how does it make you feel?
Regardless of your reaction, know this: there's not one thing they have done to create their success that you could not duplicate.

The formula is simple to start:
1- Know exactly what you want
2- Take massive action towards it

Simple? Yes.

Easy? No.

Doable? Well, that all depends upon what you believe. As Henry Ford said, whether you believe you can, or you believe you can't, you're going to be right.

I saw a recent article that mentioned that according to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor and Statistics trainers who were certified in 2004 received a salary from $25,470 to $55,560.

The doorman always sneezes twice - at least

I'm off to speak at the AFPA Spring Conference, but I wanted to be sure I told you about a conversation I had yesterday with one of my private coaching clients.

She's a trainer who's going from working in the industry part-time to full-time. So she's really working on ramping up her 'book'. Yesterday she explained to me that one of her clients, who she doesn't think will be able to afford her services much longer, is a doorman. She lives in NYC, so you know a building that has a doorman has residents with disposable income. Talk about hitting the jackpot!

How so you ask?

Do you have any idea how many times those residents see their doorman? All the friggin' time! This guy has a significant amount of fat to shed. And when he does you know full-well that all those wealthy people he's holding the door open for are going to be wondering how he did it.
People in this position are called 'sneezers'. As in, they spread the good word rapidly. They can help build your business almost overnight. So as we discussed during her coaching session she needs to keep this man as a client. She may have to reduce her rate. She may have to train him for next to nothing. But there is no better marketing than this. A walking, talking billboard that prospects who have the money to afford her see all the time. And I mean ALL THE TIME! That's priceless!

Now there are other considerations, of course. He has to make the commitment and do the work necessary to succeed or the deal is off. And he also needs to be aware that this isn't charity, this is a marketing expense for her. That means that the people he 'sneezes' to about her are told what her regular rates are.

So, who are the 'sneezers' in your area? Your situation might be different from her's, but no matter where your business stands currently you can use this information. Are you looking:

- for more speaking engagements?
- more clients?
- corporate clients?
- to sell info-products?

Seriously, who should you be willing to work with for F R E E so that they do the same for you what this doorman is going to do for her? This is a bonafide marketing expense. You could be spending the dough on direct mail or flyers or your website or whatever. But walking, talking billboards will kick their a** every single time.
