Three Public Speaking Tips for Fitness Pros

These Three Public Speaking Tips for Fitness Professionals are brought to you by:
http://www.amazingfitnesspresentations.com

Public speaking is not only a great way to prospect for new clients; it also builds your credibility as an expert. Whether or not you speak in public already, these three tips will make your life easier.

Tip #1- Have a really cool introduction

You really want to bond with your audience right away so come up with something that shows you are an expert, but also human. A lot of people are intimidated by fitness professionals so it's very important to make everyone there comfortable.

Here's one I've used in the past to get the audience laughing before we even started:
"While at the University of Delaware, Jim Labadie managed to be a Dean's List student by incorporating a steady diet of study, volunteer work, Jack Daniel's and Taco Bell. It was this strict lifestyle that allowed him to graduate not only with a degree in Fitness Management, but also 40 pounds fatter than you see him today.

A reformed party-animal and fast-food junkie, Coach Jim is a passionate fitness entrepreneur, speaker, coach and consultant. He has appeared in Redbook, Men's Fitness, Self and if you watch local news on Fox, NBC or CBS you've probably seen him there, too."

Typically, the person who booked you will be the one who is going to introduce you. Make sure they know to read word for word the introduction you have created. If you don't specifically hand this to them right before you go and request it they very well may resort to just reading straight from your bio. Boring! It's happened to me so be sure they introduce you the right way to set the tone for a great talk.

Tip #2 - It's super easy to get speaking "gigs"

I'm often asked by Fitness Professionals how they should go about getting booked for talks. When I tell them to pick up the phone and call people they nearly pass out at the very thought of having to make a "cold call." When they come back to their senses I gently explain most of these groups meet weekly and they need a speaker at each meeting. That means they need someone willing to come in and speak for free in a bad way! Believe me; they are dying to hear from you.

And they are super easy to find as well. If you belong to a networking group of some sort I can almost guarantee you they'd love to have you speak. Ask people such as your clients what groups they belong to and whether or not they have speakers. All sorts of religious organizations have meetings with speakers. Search the internet. It's simple!

When you call them just ask for the person who books speakers. They'll gladly tell you who it is and how to get in touch with them. What do you say when you get them on the phone? "Hi, I understand you're looking for speakers for your meetings. Is that correct?" I'm confident you can handle it.

They'll then ask you what you talk about. I think every single time I've ever told someone my talk is on fitness they'll all responded with the same answer: "We could all use that!"

Even better you could hire someone to make these calls for you! It leverages your time and it looks pretty impressive that you're such a BIG name you have to have your staff book your speaking engagements.

Tip #3 - Have a bio and description of your talk handy

When you make the initial contact there's a very good chance they'll want to see your bio and the description of what you plan on talking about. It doesn't need to be a big production to start. Just have two separate documents. The bio just needs to give a brief background on your experience and credentials. Your talk description is simply the title of your talk and bullet points on what you will cover.

What am I reading?

I can't think of the quote, or who said it, for the life of me. I'm sure you've heard it before. It's something like 'The difference in your life 5 years from now is all going to depend on the people you meet and the books you read.' I think it was either Bob Proctor or Jim Rohn.

Well, when one of my readers suggested I fill you in on the books I'm reading I knew it was not a coincidence. I don't believe in them anyway so...

Anyway, without further ado, I've got some great info on books you should be reading and people you should be meeting. Oh, and I'm currently reading three books.

1) The Irresistible Offer by Mark Joyner

I've been meaning to get this one for some time now. I finally went to Borders this week and plopped down and read 1/2 of it. Of course I bought it and I'm reading the rest. Great stuff.
To give you an example of an Irresistible Offer you needn't look further than Joyner's primary example - Domino's Pizza.

Remember this one?

'Pizza hot and fresh to your door in 30 minutes or less or it's free'

It's pretty simple really. That is the example of an offer that can help sell a product or service in 3 seconds or less. Since people, you included, are hammered with thousands and thousands of marketing messages each day it is imperative you are able to cut through the clutter and make someone an offer they'd be crazy to refuse. And you've only got 3 seconds to do it!!!

My advice to you:

a- Get the book

b- Use the Domino's example to come up with your own Irresistible Offer that defines your company

How about something like:

'You'll shed up to 8 pounds of fat in 30 days, and have fun doing it, or your moolah back!'

2)The Power of Intention by Dr. Wayne Dyer

Awesome. One section on abundance goes into how when 'you change the way you look at things the things you look at change.' So true. So true.

My advice to you:

a- Get the book

b- Meditate on how you look at things AND how you want things to change

3) The Definitive Guide to Google AdWords by Perry Marshall (eBook)

It's my understanding that Perry Marshall is by far and away the leading expert on Google AdWords. I've only skimmed this one as I'm focusing on finishing the previous two. But I can tell you that I'm psyched to get started on it!

My advice to you:

a- Sign up for his free mini-course on the subject at http://www.freegoogleadcourse.com

b- Give serious consideration to the fact that there were, according to Overture.com, 816,894 searches in February for 'weight loss' (and that's from ONE search engine)

4) The people you need to meet are going to be in Stamford, CT at the end of October.

Why?

They're going to the best event in the fitness industry.

What event?

This event: http://www.Ryan-Lee-BootCamp.com

I cannot possibly recommend an experience more highly than this one. And it truly is an experience. It's much more than a weekend seminar.

Remember, the way your life is going to look in 5 years is going to depend on the books you read and the people you meet. The most ambitious, friendly, successful and entrepreneurial fitness professionals, including me, are going to be there.

Get there. I assure you you will have the time of your life. And when you look back in five years you will credit that weekend with a tremendous amount of your success.

http://www.Ryan-Lee-BootCamp.com

Yours in prosperity,

Jim Labadie

PS- I really cannot say enough good things about the event Ryan held last year. It was absolutely friggin' amazing. The energy was incredible. All the speakers were friendly and accessible. The networking was the best you can imagine.

You need to be there. If you want to be as successful as you can be in the fitness industry, you need to be there. And there's zero risk on your part. When you see the guarantee he's offering you're going to...

It's all a gift

This one can be a bit tough to get your arms around. What you are about to read takes a VERY open mind.

Last week I read a column in a local Tampa paper. This gentleman was griping about the fact that CEO of Capital One (as in the credit card company) made $250 million in 2005 by exercising some stock options while the company laid off 1100 people from their call centers.

Now I'm not even going to get into whether or not the CEO earned the $250 million. I don't know if he did or didn't. But the fact of the matter is that he has an extraordinary responsibility and with that comes extraordinary rewards.

The reason I am writing you is to help keep you from thinking like the masses.

Obviously, most people would read a column such as this and get up in arms about what a terrible thing to do to people. How could someone making $250 million dollars be so cruel?

I look at it from a completely different perspective. Again, I don't know the exact details of what happened. What I do know is what a wonderful opportunity these 1100 people have been given! I view everything in life as a gift. I choose to see all the incredible possibilities now standing before them. Instead of working in a cubicle all day long listening to people complain they now have the chance to live the life of their dreams. They have the chance to start fresh and become whatever they choose. There is nothing they cannot be, do or have.

And the same goes for you, me and everyone else. Opportunity is everywhere. There is no limit to what these people can become. To me, they have literally been set free from bondage. To me, this CEO has done them the biggest favor of their life.

It's crucial for you to think different. It's imperative that you question everything. Including this message I'm sending you. Don't just take my word for it. Think about it.

Prosperity is everywhere at all times. There's no place on earth where it does not exist. It's everyone's birthright. The media would love to have you think otherwise. So would the masses who don't know how to think for themselves.

And by the way, prosperity is much more than just money. It's also pure joy, freedom, living your life's purpose, love, spirituality...It's all those things.

There is much more to life than a lousy job working in a call center. 1100 people now have a golden opportunity staring them right in the face. Will they take it? I hope so.

More importantly, the next time a challenge arises in your life, will you see the gift? Or will you only see what the masses would you like you to see?

Yours in prosperity,

Jim Labadie

PS- Yesterday afternoon I sat by my pool and read The Power of Intention by Dr. Wayne Dyer. Awesome book. Even more awesome is living the kind of life where you can do whatever you want whenver you want. What are YOU watching?

I was at a Sushi bar this past Wednesday night having some green tea and, of course, sushi. And while I certainly don't live for TV I was kind of psyched to see they had American Idol on. This is the first year I've ever watched it and I must admit I dig it. I absolutely LOVE watching people go after their dreams.

When it was over I, unfortunately, got a stark reminder of why millions of people in this country have a poverty mindset. Some ridiculous show called "Unanimous" came on. I don't know if you've ever seen it or not, but if you watch it make sure you STOP!

From what I can tell they have a bunch of 'ordinary' people locked in what seems to be some sort of a dungy basement. No light. No fresh air. No contact with the outside world. And apparently these folks have to stay there until they decide who is the "unanimous" winner of a one million dollar prize.

So as I was watching I felt like puking when I saw what was happening. Everyone was lying, cheating and doing ever low-down thing they could do to become the winner. But that's not what made me sick.

What does?

The fact that God knows how many people are watching this trash and are having their sub-consious minds be programmed that money is the root of all evil. When you watch this garbage you don't even realize how it is altering your beliefs around money. It trains your sub-conscious to believe that to obtain money you have to be a complete scumbag.

If you're reading this I don't believe you to be a bad person. Far from it. I believe you to be one of the most intelligent people on the planet. But I want you to understand what programs like that can do to a person like you. Essentially, it can cause you to:

* Self-sabotage
* Work on projects that are high-hassle and low-profit instead of the reverse
* Pick poor business partners
* Make unwise decisions with your money

Why? Because you get programmed with the belief that money is evil and if you have it, or start to earn more of it, then you must be evil too!

Give some serious thought to than and the things you are putting into your mind.

Yours in prosperity,

Jim Labadie

PS- If you live in the US I'm sure you're fully aware you need to have your taxes sent it today. And that being the case there's a good chance you've been reviewing your financial records and studying how much of a return you've received on your investments over the past year.

While I'm all for making sound financial decisions. I'm an even bigger believer in the fact that the greatest return I will see is the investments I make in my own business. Hopefully, you view it the same way. If you do, and you want to make 10 times your money try a coaching session with me. I can easily turn the $250 you spend into $2500. But it will probably be $25,000 or even $250,000 over the course of your lifetime. If you're willing to actually do the work.

This is serious stuff

I've written about this before. The word that most often seems to be missing from the fitness professional's vocabulary is FUN. I don't like affirming the negative, but let's face it, most people don't dig exercise. Many will tell you they just don't have the time, but for the most part that is complete horsesh*t. You know it and I know it. People make time for the things they enjoy. I think most people don't exercise because they dread it.

Yes, to obtain results people are going to need to work. They are going to need to do a whole bunch of things to make a permanent lifestyle change. But that doesn't mean it has to suck, right?

One of my private coaching clients said something very interesting to me during her session last week. She has a business that runs very successful boot camps in their facility. The more crowded the camp is the more the participants like it. When there's only 3 or 4 people attending those who are there get a little bummed. They don't care that they'll get more attention from the instructor. They care that they don't have as much FUN!!!

Think about that for a moment.

It really should grab you by the neck and shake you up. People want to have fun! Your prospects want to have fun. The public needs to know fitness can be fun.

A lot of people dread exercise. They imagine walking on a treadmill for 60 minutes being bored to death. Or they picture going through the same old boring machines again and again. You need to know this. You need to combat this! You need to let the world know fitness is fun again!

When you add the fact that camps are more affordable for people it really is a no-brainer to start your own. My friend, and customer, Scott Colby of SC Fitness in Dallas made $8000 for his latest round of camps! And to my knowledge he doesn't even take on one-one clients anymore because he's having too much fun running camps!

He makes a lot more money and works a lot less for it. Plus, he's now got the time to create multiple streams of income with info-products. Start having more fun and grab a copy of the Ultimate Boot Camp Start-Up Kit at:

Public speaking tip

A great way to get people signed up for your camp, or as 'regular' training clients, is public speaking. And I'll tell you how to make it a slam dunk. Bring one of your campers or clients. I'm confident you've got at least one who absolutely LOVES you and your camp. I'm certain you've got at least one walking, talking billboard who just can't stop talking about how awesome it is and what a difference it's made in their life.

Emotion is what moves people. Let this person start off your talk by introducing you. Let them touch the hearts of the audience. There's no better form of advertising. There truly isn't it.
More than likely this person would be happy to help you out anyway they can. But if you need to, make it worth their while in some way.

Oh, and you can't make it a commercial for your services. But what they can do is express to the audience how much their new found fitness has meant to their lives. It's about inspiring people to take action!!

Another of my private coaching clients has been doing her 'scripting' homework with great success. Here's what she recently wrote me:

'Having a blast scripting my day. Getting very specific about how I want to spend my time and not worrying about the details as much like you said. And it's odd but people are just coming out of nowhere who have all the talents I need to produce my videos!'

It's amazing how this stuff works, but I do it all the time. I'm big into the spiritual secrets of prosperity and this is one of my favorites. PS- If you've been looking for kick ass sandbags to use with your clients and Boot Camps then look no further. Fellow fitness entrepreneur Josh Henkin has the answer. Check it out at:
http://www.trainandgrowrich.com/sandbags.htm

PPS- Here are some of the testimonials for this awesome training tool:

'Josh,
Your new sandbag is my new favorite training tool! I have been using your bag for my own training sessions and also during my Bootcamp training sessions. I love it and my clients love it. They love the unique challenge that lifting a sandbag requires and the fun they have while doing so. My clients are all far from hard-core trainees (I am talking housewives and office workers!), but they all love it when I break out your sandbags and run them through some full-body powercircuits.

I have been training my Bootcamp attendees with your Sandbags and many have commented that they are losing fat each week and their clothes are already starting to fit better. The best thing is that they love the training and actually look forward to training with the sandbags! Thanks again for making this kick-ass bag! My clients (and my wallet) are loving it!'
-Kyle Battis CSCS, ATC, NSCA-CPT
Professional Fitness Coaching

'Having a background in martial arts and working as a trainer I have always been intrigued by sandbag training. However, I have not implemented sandbags because all the bags in the market either leak, or rip the skin of my clients. Neither is acceptable when you train in a nice facility. I have also found most sandbag products do not allow my beginning clients to use them as the limitations in gripping options makes it near impossible for beginners to participate.

That is why I was so excited to work with Josh Henkin's Ultimate Sandbag. Immediately I could see the difference in the quality of the canvas. It was nearly as abrasive on the hands which allowed for many more of my clients to use the bag. I also found the varied gripping options to not only help those starting out, but also for creating more unique drills for my more advanced clients. Josh Henkin's sandbag is an essential piece of my training arsenal not only for myself, but for the great results I get my clients. More than worth the investment!'

Ray D'Alessio
Certified Personal Trainer and Martial Artist

'Would I get Josh's bag instead of other bags on the market?

Yes!

You get what you pay for and in this instance you are making out very well. In addition, Josh is much easier to get a hold of should there be a problem. Josh stands by his products through and through.'

Zach Even-Esh
The Underground Strength Coach

'If you have clients that have trained for many years and you, your client or both are getting bored then here is your answer. The sandbag is a great total body strength training tool as well as an excellent cardio workout. Those that are strapped for time need this product to give them everything they need in 30 minutes. Just give it a try and you will find muscles sore that haven't been sore in years. '

Real-world abundance mentality

My very first training client in Tampa was one of the most prosperous people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. He had been retired for a few years when he was about 40 years old! This guy lived the life. He had an amazing home, an amazing family and enjoyed life as much as any person I'd ever met.

Why wouldn't he?

He'd sold his software business and made enough to last him the rest of his life. And I'm not talking about getting by. I'm talking about living a life of luxury. There's nothing like being an entrepreneur. It's the only way to go as far as I'm concerned and this guy is living proof.

I really can't remember a time when he wasn't smiling. In fact, the biggest smile I ever saw him give was when I asked him what he would do if his home, which was on the water, was flooded or damaged by a hurricane. Since it's about impossible for him to get flood insurance I was astonished by his answer. He looked at me and gave me a sh*t eating grin and simply said, "Buy a new one."

That was that. Case closed. jim, THAT is true prosperity in my mind. He'd been an entrepreneur all his life. He'd started businesses when he was a teenager. He had enough money to live more than comfortably for the rest of his life. But he also knows how to manifest more at any given time. If he wanted more he'd just manifest more.

Is there any better example of having an abundance mentality than that? It's the same mentality you need to be sure to develop.

By the way, a couple years later I saw he had sold that house for $3.8 million. Not too shabby being able to easily replace a $3.8 million home!

You're an entrepreneur. You have a license to print the green stuff. Never forget that!

Yours in prosperity,
Jim Labadie

I need a day off

If you've never seen the movie "What the Bleep Do We Know" I highly suggest you do. You can check it out at: http://www.whatthebleep.com

The movie discusses, in a very entertaining way, the quantum physics behind co-creating your own reality. It explains how our thoughts become our reality. To say it is amazing stuff is the understatement of the year. And if you've seen it already you know exactly what I'm talking about.

So how has it helped me?

Well, I've worked about two hours today and I've already made a thousand dollars. And most of that came while I was sleeping in. I'm taking the rest of the day off and going out to the Gulf of Mexico to ride Wave Runners all day.

But my life wasn't always this much fun. It changed when I completely focused my thoughts on what I wanted instead of what my life looked like at the time. Nowadays, I dream even bigger dreams. My thoughts are focused on manifesting even more money and working even less.

And you know what?

While I'm off having fun the Universe is in the background bringing forward everything I will need to make what I want next a reality.

How does this help you?

Focus on what you want every single day. Imagine it as if it were already a reality and you'll be amazed at how it manifests into your life like magic.

Yours in prosperity,

Jim Labadie

Does money buy happiness?

I read an article a couple weeks ago about lottery winners losing the millions they had won. Check it out at: http://tinyurl.com/kgbzb

Sure the stories are sad. Yes, they would reinforce the belief many hold that money is evil. I'm sure many would read this article - you might be one of them- and think, 'money doesn't buy happiness.' And it doesn't.

Or does it?

I believe both prosperity and poverty are mindsets. These people were not ready to have all this money thrust upon them. In fact, their sub-conscious minds did just about everything it could to get rid of the money as quicky as possible.

Why?

They come from a poverty mindset. Not one of prosperity.

That being written, let's get back to money buying happiness. Think back to the most amazing vacation you've ever had. Close your eyes and imagine it. Where were you? How long were you there? Remember all the laughs. The relaxation. How happy you were.

Now, let me ask you: how did you pay for it?

Money is energy. You can see it as positive or negative. Can it buy you happiness? Well, I'll let you decide.

Yours in prosperity,

Jim Labadie

This is supposed to be hard, right?

One of my private coaching clients once said something to me I'll never forget.

His business was struggling a bit and the harder he worked the less things went his way. While that may seem counterintuitive I can explain why his work ethic was standing in the way of his success.

This is basically what he said: "I know this is supposed to be hard and it's always a struggle to get your business going."

I stopped him right there and immediately explained to him his problems.

First, he needed to watch his self-talk. If his sub-conscious keeps hearing him say this is going to be hard, it's going to be a challenge, nothing worth doing is ever easy, well, guess what? His sub-conscious was doing what it was told. It made everything he was doing a challenge. It made everything hard. It made it the challenge of all challenges.

Who ever said it has to be hard? Why not affirm that it will take some effort, but his business will grow quickly and easily?

Once he started affirming that it became so. And today his business is booming.
He's in national magazines, works only with the clients he decides to take on and sells info-products all over the planet.

Second, the Law of Attraction is Universal. And he was attracting to him like a magnet as many obstacles to him becoming a success as he could. If you are constantly thinking that you must suffer when you start a business then the Universe will deliver to you every obstacle it can.

Why? Because thoughts become things.

So when you affirm the positive you not only train your sub-conscious to make your life easy, but the Universe as well.

Now that might seem nuts to you. Don't take my word for it. Try it yourself. See what happens when you start thinking and talking differently. And try it on your clients as well. It works. My client and myself are living proof.

Here are some great affirmations that not only train your sub-conscious, but set your intention to the Universe so it can deliver you what you want. Believe me, you'll always get what you really want, so be careful what you ask for!

- Money is attracted to me like a magnet
- I only train clients who are a joy to work with
- All of my clients are wonderful walking, talking billboards
- I've met my fitness goals with grace and ease (for clients)

Again, don't just take my word for it. Try it yourself and see what you attract into your life.

~~~~
I've got two more things to make your life easier:
1) There's two seats left for the tele-seminar I'm doing tomorrow night with Scott Colby. This afternoon we put the finishing touches on it and it is AMAZING!!! If you were to affirm that you had a full-year publicity plan for your fitness business and it only cost you $47 you'd be attending.
I MIGHT release this program at a later date, but it will cost at least $97. And you can bet the ranch on that. This info is too good.
2) My life is easy. The less I work, the more I make. If you liked today's email and really want to get into prosperity consciousness and the Universal Law of Attraction check out this site:
