Dominate Your Competition The Easy Way

Dominate Your Competition The Easy Way

I have to thank one of my subcribers for this idea.

So thanks to Matt Warren of Colorado for writing me the following quick note:

"Sometime you need to write an email about cheesy trainers who pose on their websites with their shirts off - total turnoff and creates a disconnect with the masses (not to mention the husbands who's wives they hope to train)"

It immediately got me to thinking about a conversation I had with Nate Green recently. And in case you don't remember, Nate is the 22 year old fitness entrepreneur phenom I wrote about last week.

Anyway, as Nate was talking about his astonishing success he was most amazed at something other than the results he had achieved.

Nate was amazed at how easy it was.

Now make no mistake, there was hard work, sacrifice and discipline involved.

But aren't there lots of people who work long hours for little pay who work hard and sacrifice with no real light at the end of the tunnel?

Nate and his business partner Sam Glauber worked hard for awhile and are now reaping the benefits.

Again, a 22 year old fitness trainer who runs his own personal training studio with complete business systems was most amazed by how easy it was to create.

So getting back to Matt's point about "cheesy" trainers.

How many of those do you know?

With so many knucklehads in this industry it's actually incredibly easy to dominate your market.

And here's something I want to point out to you. It needs to be clear as day.

If you spend more time b*itching and moaning about all those cheesy trainers and how they are ruining your profession than you do celebrating the fact they make it so easy for your to be successful...

...well, you've got some thinking to do.

Who loves ya? ;-)

Get Lean...Fast!

Update!!! You can read about the Trainer's Inner Circle course curriculum here: http://trainersinnercircle.com/curriculum.html

****

You know who I am.

I can't imagine you don't know Pat Rigsby.

But there's a good chance you don't know the third member of the http://trainersinnercircle.com mentorship program.

So I had the man who "trims the fat" from fitness businesses write some tips for you to introduce you to the one and only Nick Berry.

It's the type of information I don't touch on nearly enough.

- Jim

****

One of the lessons that far too many entrepreneurs, in any industry, learn too late (or never at all) is this:

It's not how much you make, it's how much you keep.

There are a ton of individuals and businesses out there whose revenues look incredible, but they aren't making any money.

Well, the bottom line is the bottom line. And generating revenue is only part of the entrepreneurial battle.

Cost control is another major issue. It doesn't really matter to me how much revenue you bring in, if you can't manage to keep any of it, now does it?

There are an infinite number of ways you can go about controlling your costs and keeping more of what you've earned. I've outlined a couple of the concepts that I recommend to anyone who wants to 'trim the fat' from their business.

1) Want vs. Need

This is the simplest of formulas for controlling your costs.

Ask yourself one very simple question whenever deciding upon an expenditure:

How will my business be affected if I do/don't do this?

It's a simple matter of wants vs. needs.

Another example is an acquaintance of mine who started his own business.

When it came time to clean some of his floors, he went out and bought a mop, a mop bucket, soap, and some sponges.

He spent almost $60 on cleaning supplies - all of which were the highest end products.

You can go buy a mop, bucket, soap and sponges for under $25. He WANTED a rolling mop bucket and wringer, he NEEDED a bucket that would hold water.

I understand cheap products don't last as long, but if you overspend on items when it's just not necessary, YOUR BUSINESS won't last long.

This is not a 'Cleaning Supplies Theory', this is a 100% time tested business principle. You cannot overspend on everything and expect to have a highly profitable business. It's impossible.

2) Time Management

It's very cliché, but yes, time is money.

Therefore you've got to be as thrifty with your time as you are with your money.

When you are inefficient in task execution, minutes turn into hours, hours into days, and so on.

How often do you take 30 minutes to complete a 10 minute task? Your phone rings, you check your email (or your Fantasy Football Team), or any other numerous speedbumps that slow your productivity.

You are stealing time from your business. And if you have employees who are inefficient, they are stealing time from your business.

One of the most effective time management exercises I do for myself, when I feel like I'm not executing as many highly productive tasks as I'd like, only takes an extra 3 or 4 minutes a day.

Take a sheet of paper or small notepad and pen, and keep it with you.

All day long, every minute of your day is dedicated to some task. For example:

7:45-8:15 workout
8:15-8:40 meet w/ Pat and Holly
8:40-9:20 go to office, open mail, check email 9:30-10:30 AP reports and bookkeeping with CPA
10:30-10:43 Mgmt conference call

Get the idea?

But don't lie to yourself. If from 9:20-9:32 you didn't really do anything, then make sure you keep track of that.

By the end of the day you'll know just how effectively you're really managing your time.

The Secret To More Success

Yesterday I wrote about Warren Buffett.

And yesterday I had a fitness pro write me back that Mr. Buffett wasn't leaving any loot for his kids.

This trainer didn't seem too happy about it.

Now I have no idea if that is true or not.

Meaning, if Mr. Buffett is leaving an inheritance or not to his children.

It's none of my business.

And while I write a lot of personal stuff, I don't think I'd ever presume to tell you that you should or should not leave an inheritance for your children.

It's really none of my business.

But what I do find interesting is the sense of entitlement that people have.

I'm not about to say I'm 100% immune from it myself.

Still, it's pretty insane how people feel they are entitled to things.

If Warren Buffet doesn't want to leave any of his fortune to his kids then so be it.

His kids are responsible for their own lives.

Just as I'm responsible for mine.

And you are responsible for yours.

It reminds me of an email exchange I had with my friend Kevin Gianni not so long ago.

Kevin's business has literally exploded - in a positve way - over the last few months.

He has met some of the most amazing people as a result.

Some of which he is partnering with on exciting new projects that blow me away every time I think about them.

What really stood out for me was when Kevin wrote that the day he took 100% responsibility for EVERYTHING in his life is when his outrageous success truly began.

It's one of the hardest things to do, but when you really get that concept is when everything changes.

And everything changes for the better.

Oh, and I'm guessing if you're one of Warren Buffet's kids you've learned a thing or two about financial responsibility along the way.

Again, that's just a guess.

Who loves ya? ;-)

What Would Warren Buffett Do?

Sunday night I watched a CNBC program on the second wealthiest man in the world.

Warren Buffet was asked what advice he gives to children and teenagers about becoming a financial success.

He said he tells them two things:

1- Stay away from credit cards

2- Invest in themselves

So how much stock do YOU put in the advice of the second wealthiest man on earth?

And if you haven't been following the first part of his advice and have gotten yourself into a little trouble, well, acting on the second part is how you dig out of the hole.

Who loves ya? ;-)

Yours in prosperity,

PS- My partners in the http://www.trainersinnercircle.com/ consult to the conultants!

"In the past, the three keys to a successful business were location, location, location. Well, in today's business world there are six keys to a successful business: location, location, location, systems, systems, systems.

Unfortunately for me, I was missing systems entirely. I have a strong business model, decent cash flow, tons of desire and strong work ethic...I just ended up spinning my wheels and feeling like I was never productive enough. I would look back on a day and even a week and think to myself, "What did I really get accomplished?"

Well along come Pat Rigsby and Nick Berry. I thought I was going to teach them a thing or two about the health club business, but what ended up happening was they pointed out so many obvious and even more not-so-obvious things that I was missing in my own business. They showed me how many upselling and profit center opportunities I was missing, and even provided steps I could take to begin capitalizing on this easy muney. They even helped evaluate my current pricing model and found that I was severely undercharging my clients!

So long story short, with the advice that they provided me, for just one of our profit centers we have increased revenues from around 2,500/month to just under 11,000/month. Another of our profit centers, an online training service, we have now doubled our monthly earnings...and it's all automated!

And while an increase in revenue is nice, the most important thing that came from Pat and Nick were the systems that they helped implement.

I love what I do, but I was getting burned out working until the wee hours of the morning and falling asleep with jumbled thoughts in my head, unsure of what I needed to do first the following morning. I literally was spending 100 hours a week either working, thinking about working, or worrying about working every week. Now I focus on a regular set schedule, and I get more done in 40 hours than I ever did in 100.

If I didn't fear boring you, I could talk forever about the great things Pat and Nick have done for my businesses. From the bottom of my heart I thank you for showing me how to work "on" my business rather than "in" my business."

Sincerely,

Curtis Mock, President

How much time would you save if...

Oftentimes the things we can do to save time are staring us right in the face.

Many times I find myself answering the same questions over and over and over...

Not smart.

PS- Yes, we've been getting lots of questions. We've taken our own advice. Check out the http://www.trainersinnercircle.com/faq.html

Another thing he told me is...

Another thing he told me is...

On Thursday I shared the story of 22 year old fitness phenom Nate Green.

Another thing he told me is how astonished people in their thirties and fourties are when he tells them about himself.

According to Nate most of them are in complete shock.

Which brings us to today's big questions:

How comfortable are you with success?

Meaning, are you comfortable being the man or woman amongst your friends and family who has complete freedom?

Will you be able to handle it?

Will you feel guilty?

Perhaps you say you wouldn't feel guilty, but thanks to how you were raised you've got a subconscious belief trying to hold you back?

What are your friends and family going to say if you work half the hours they do and make twice - or more - what they make?

Will you be shunned?

Will they be p@issed at you?

Will they be truly happy for you?

Do you think you deserve to live such a life?

Do you feel like you haven't yet paid your dues?

Take some time this weekend to reflect on those questions.

Meditate on them if you like.

Ask them to yourself out loud and then go for a workout. Let your subconscious answer them while you're exercising.

Let me know what you come up with.

And if I see you enrolled for the http://trainersinnercircle.com/ mentorship I'll know you're ready for the prosperity that is your birthright.

Who loves ya? ;-)

WHOA! 22 Year Old Fitness Phenom

On Monday I wrote about a video I was going to show you of a super successful 21 year old fitness pro.

I need to apologize because he is MUCH older than I thought.

His name is Nate Grean and he's all of 22 years old. Not 21 like I thought.

Nate's business partner, who I also know, Sam Glauber is the senior citizen in their company at the ripe old age of 24.

They've recently opened Emerge Fitness Solutions in a major ski-resort town in Montana.

Sam's going on vacation to Hawaii and Nate's headed to Belize for a few weeks of relaxation.

Because of the systems they have in place their business will be just fine without them.

If you'd like to be even more amazed I suggest watching this video real quick. Be careful your jaw doesn't hit the floor when you hear how many hours they work each week.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmUAlQ_cS78

So how old are you?

How are your dreams coming along?

Still insisting on doing things the hard way?

Still worried the http://trainersinnercircle.com might not be everything we say it is because you found a typo in our copy?

Does it p*ss the he** out of you to see two young guys enjoying life so much while you suffer and slave through another day?

Hmmm.

I wonder what YOUR answers to those questions are.

I wonder if you'll be a part of the http://trainersinnercircle.com and join guys like Nate and Sam on the beach.

It's your life.

I still love ya.

Send Your Critics Straight to...

Today's lesson is simple:

There is a time and place for everything.

The more your name gets "out there" the more the critics are going to blast you.

It's the nature of the beast, my friend.

And while I don't normally advise getting caught up in those negative vibes, there is one time it does make sense to mix it up.

If a "big name" person starts shooting their mouth off feel free to start some controversy.

Controversy marketing definitely works.

And the best part is, these morons who think they are doing you harm are doing you a world of good.

They're giving you a ton of exporuse on the house!

If your information is solid and you do right by people what do you have to lose?

For the most part, nothing.

But you still need to be careful when you stir things up. I'm NOT advising you to go stepping on people's toes just to get people to notice you.

And I'm certainly not telling you to go shooting your mouth off for no reason at all.

Just recently a former "big name" in the fitness industry got himself in a mess of trouble on the internet for calling out another big name.

He didn't realize the overwhelming support would be AGAINST him.

The internet is the great equalizer, and this old-timer didn't realize the trouble he was creating for himself.

Controversy works. But make sure you're on the right side of it or you're in for a world of hurt.

Who loves ya? ;-)

Raising Money for Alzheimer’s Disease

The more successful you become the bigger your responsibility to give back. While the media would like you to believe rich people are evil, most of the time it's just not the case. People who believe in true prosperity give back in a big way.

I could go on and on about the topic, but the message it pretty simple. The more you give the more you get. And the more you get the more you give. I've said it a million times: Life is easy when you let it be.

That being written, a fellow fitness pro could use your help. I've already made my donation. Please be sure to help if you can.

The Deciding Factor

I was recently asked a question that went something like this:

"The women who join my club want to work with a female trainer and I don't have enough on my staff to go around. What do I do?"

My answer:

"The question you should be asking yourself is, “Why wouldn't I hire more female personal trainers?” It's not easy to know how much you are losing in personal training revenue by only having two female personal trainers on staff, but, I'm guessing it's a significant amount.

Something else to consider is to move to semi-private training. Having the female trainers you currently have on staff train three or four clients at once makes the most sense. It is more cost-effective for the client, and the small group setting is more fun and encourages social support. Also, it allows you and the personal trainer to earn more per hour. Everyone wins."

While my answer may seem more than obvious to most, it isn't really what I want to share with you.

No, I want to share with you The Deciding Factor.

And that is the fact that THE MARKET DECIDES

Your gut doesn't decide. Your best guess doesn't decide. Your opinion doesn't decide. Your ego doesn't decide.

The Market Decides

And if you don't like it, well, too freakin' bad.

Did that person really need to ask that question?

What was it that kept them from seeing the obvious.

It could be any number of things. I'm not going to get into belief systems and everything else, but there are deep-seated issues at the root.

The main problem being their failure to let the open market dictate what it wants.

If your female members want female trainers then give them female trainers.

I'm sure the male ones you have on staff are terrific.

I'm guessing they're great at what they do.

But if the market decides they want women instead, well, you need to supply women.

And that's what is so funny about all the anonymous posters on personal training forums and blogs.

They fail to see the obvious: The open market decides what sells and what does not.

If a product or service sucks it is going to fail.

The open market will decide what amount it goes for.

And that leads me to my next point...

It never ceases to amaze me the short-sighted personal trainers out there who love to attack the entrepreneurial fitness pros with ambition.

It amazes me how some trainers with twenty years of experience are so jealous of others with barely any experience - who by the way are still really great at getting clients reults - because they've invested in their business education and have already surpassed them financially.

Sour, sour grapes.

Instead of getting their 73rd certification they should have been learning about how to run a business.

But nah, they'd rather be wearing their Victim of Honor medals at the latest fitness seminar complaining about all those inexperienced guys who are making all that loot.

They love crying over the fact a trainer with a fraction of their experience is already more successful than them.

"Oh, all they want is to worship the almighty dollar!", they moan.

"Whoa is me! Here I am with all these certifications and all these years in the trenches suffereing and I'm broke."

"Boo hoo hoo. Please feel bad for me", they post on the forums.

Then the group think of the weak-minded really begins.

So the cry goes out, "There must be someone we can blame for our failures!"

"Yes, yes, let's blame the people who have created all these successes!"

I could go on and on with my little story, but I'm sure you get the idea.

Sometime this week I'm going to share a video testimonial from a 21 year old fitness pro who owns his own studio. He delivers big-time results for his clients. He is the consumate pro in every way you can imagine.

And he only works about 20 hours a week.

Can you hear the b*tching and moaning from the grizzly fitness industry veterans?

It drives them crazy that someone so young can be so good at what he does, work less than them and make more green.

Sour, sour grapes.

Trust me: People don't give a rat's a** about you. They care about what you're going to do for them.

The open market decides. Your wounded pride has nothing to do with it.

But don't worry, no matter what side of the fence you sit on I still love ya.

Yours in prosperity,

Jim Labadie

How to Create Your Own Fitness Boot Camp

Hope you're having a great weekend! I've got a guest author today who really know his stuff. Enjoy!

- Jim

How to Create Your Own Fitness Boot Camp

Just about every fitness center and gym seems to offer a version of the trendy boot camp workout these days. Some go with a pseudo-militaristic theme, complete with camouflage gear. Others refer to standard circuit classes as boot camps.

Deciding what type of boot camp workout you want to teach determines where you'll hold it, what equipment you'll need, what exercises you'll introduce to clients and, most importantly, who your target clientele will be.

Choosing a target clientele

If your strength as a trainer lies in postpartum fitness, consider designing a boot camp for new mums. Or perhaps you have athletic experience and are good with team sports. Why not target participants who enjoy higher-intensity, athletic training? Stick with your strengths, and your creativity will follow.

Liability issues

Before starting your boot camp classes, check with your professional liability insurance carrier to make sure that you are covered to teach in a group or outdoor setting and also that the exercises you present are covered under your policy. Know what your class is capable of and monitor class participants closely to minimize the chance of injury.

Boot Camp programming

Design a program that gradually increases in intensity over the length of the course. For example, you wouldn't teach plyometrics on day one, but you shouldn't have to instruct proper crunch form on day 15 either.

Class design

Begin each class as if you were teaching an aerobics class: do light cardiovascular movements, such as running, skipping rope, squat thrusts, etc. Follow the cardiovascular exercise with graduated stretches of the body parts that you plan to train more intensely during that session.

For the rest of the class, I like to alternate intermediate cardio with calisthenics and core conditioning. For instance, my clients do a ¼-mile run in their best effort without completely exhausting them followed by lunges and standing hip abductions before doing martial arts-style abdominal work in a standing position (e.g., hip/torso flexion).

They rest for upwards of 90 seconds and then transition back into 2-5 additional minutes of cardio, followed by drills like pushups, medicine ball tosses and seated abdominal chops. Whatever exercises you decide to teach, keep your programming simple and fun!

"Jim,

Just wanted to give you a quick heads up on the progress I've made with my camps since purchasing your Ultimate Boot Camp Product.

I started in March '06 with about 10 people attending. It's steadily grown over the last 9 months with this month hitting 56 enrolled!!

It was your product that cemented the idea to start my own camps. I had no idea at the time that some initial guidance from the Ultimate BC CD's and some marketing know how would amount to a such a successful business.

I want to thank you for providing that spark that ignited what this year will be a SIX-FIGURE boot camp business!!"

"Hi Jim,

My name is Lyle Johnson, owner of MVP Fitness in St. Louis. I purchased your Boot Camp Start Up Kit and have gotten great results. I have had 44 camp members enroll in MVP Fitness Boot Camp in the first month. Not bad considering I only had 3 clients last year before the Kit!

Currently I am holding three camps; one at a local high school, another in an affluent subdivision and the other one for the St. Louis Cardinals Baseball Organization, which is actually held on the baseball diamond at the brand new Busch Staduim.

I feel great and very confident in the future direction of MVP Fitness and I am looking forward to improving more people's lives by offering more boot camps.

Thanks again! Your Ultimate Boot Camp Start-Up Kit CDs really helped me grow my business!"

Death, Taxes and Celebrities

What's that old saying?

Nothing is certain except death and taxes, right?

Well, one more certainty is the United States, unfortunately, is obsessed with celebrities.

I knew the moment I came up with the http://www.michaelmoorehealthchallenge.com/ it was a winner.

Why?

Because right or wrong, everytime you attach a celebs name to something people's ears perk up.

It's still rolling along very nicely, by the way. And the media hits keep coming in. Bloggers from all over the internet have been chiming in and most all of the fitness industry media has interviewed me about it.

So why should you care?

More Michael Moore Publicity Hits

I'll take all the hits I can get. They all add up.

See what I mean here: http://tinyurl.com/2zp72o

What have you done with the Michael Moore Health Challenge? Have you told your local media about it?

It was a strange day in October when...

I woke up that morning not knowing how much my life was going to be changed forever.

It started off a day like any other day. I was still living in Tampa at the time, but I don't remember what the weather was like. In fact, I don't remember too many of the details at all.

I only remember the excitement.

I'd been selling my http://howtogetmoreclients.com/ product since August. But because of delays in setting up my shopping cart and getting my online merchant account approved I had to take orders for it over the phone.

And while I certainly wasn't complaining, I was looking forward to the day I wasn't going to have to do that anymore. We still take orders over the phone to this day. But I was really excited to see that first online order come in.

Anyway, I sat down to my computer that morning and hit the send/receive button on Outlook and watched the day's emails pour in.

That's when it happened.

That's when everything changed.

An email came in that I'd never seen before. It almost looked like it was a receipt for something I had purchased.

It read: Merchant Email Receipt

Shortly after that a New Order Notice email came in that had been sent via my shopping cart.

Could it be?

Had it really happened while I was sleeping?

Yes, it had.

My first online order had come in while I was asleep.

For the first time I had made moolah while I was out cold.

I'd had trainers work for me and was making passive income that way, but this was different.

This was WAY different.

So I open the order notice to find out who I am going to ship to and I almost fall out of my chair.

The order came from London.

My first online order came from the UK.

It's not the greatest feeling in the world. But it's up there. It really, really is.

The guy who ordered it had been receiving my emails and because he was in the UK was waiting to be able to order online instead of having to call like everyone else.

Is there anything easier than email marketing?

Recently I interviewed my friend Craig Ballantyne.

What he revealed about marketing with YouTube blew my mind.

The entire session is packed with easy-to-use information.

You'll discover Craig's amazing YouTube secret and...

- How he became a mainstay in all the major fitness magazines

- How he transitioned from full-time trainer to full-time info-marketer

- What he learned at Yanik Silver's $10,000 per person seminar

- How to create extraordinary "hooks" which make all the difference to your bank account

- Why Oprah holds the key to your success as a fitness pro (it's not what you think)

- Who makes 80% of purchases online

- And more, lots, lots more

Do not ignore this. Listen to it. I've written it many, many times - learn from the best.

Craig is one of the best. Follow his blueprint.

Do you know what marketing is about?

I was talking to a fitness pro the other day and told him the answer.

Marketing is about relationships.

And not just the relationship you build through mediums such as emails.

No, I'm talking about real life communication.

Getting to know people.

Getting to like people.

Getting to trust people.

Let me explain something to you: Right now there is someone you have a very strong personal relationship with who can help you out with your business in some way.

You've never even thought about it, but this person can help you beyond your wildest dreams. And because you have a close relationship with them they'd be happy to help you out.

Marketing isn't just emails, direct mail pieces, press releases, public speaking...

Marketing is about relationships.

Think about that one.

Saturday I wrote you about my friend and customer Barry Lovelace. He's getting some real nice publicity as a result of using the info in http://howtoprofitwithbootcamps.com

Here is an email from his local paper he received:

"Hello,

I was talking to Carol, our Bethlehem editor, and she was telling me that you would like to have a person go through the camp and write their take on it.

Is this something that you are looking for? I would like to do an overall story on the event to give it press coverage. If you want to ask someone who is going to go through the entire camp who wants to write me a small story each week, I will be glad to help them in their efforts."

A weekly story by one of the campers.

Are you kidding me?

What else do I need to write? Talk about hitting the jackpot!!!

Come on, you've gotta give ME some love for sharing this one with you!

Yet Another Way to Make Your Life Easier

For fitness pros, by fitness pros.

http://getprograde.com/fitness_pro

****

Stay with me on this. It'll be worth your time.

On Thursday I received an email from my friend and customer Barry Lovelace. It was yet another stirring testimonial for http://www.howtoprofitwithbootcamps.com

While I was searching Barry's website for a headshot to put next to his testimonial on my site I noticed something brilliant he had done.

See for yourself at: http://wegetufit.com/bioclientpics.html

They are action shots of Barry actively training clients. And those are EXACTLY the type of pictures the media love to see.

How so?

Well, when they want to write a story about you they can simply take one of those photos and add it to the story.

And when you make the media's life easier, it makes YOUR life easier.

So get your digital camera out and start snapping some pictures for the media page on your website.

PS- Here's the testimonial.

"We wanted to run our own boot camp and although I am very good at many aspects of my business, I did not feel comfortable going at it blind. So my wife and I decided to order How to Profit With Boot Camps. One of the best investments we have made!

In following the steps for publicity we IMMEDIATELY received calls from three major media outlets in our area practically begging us to come out. The press we will receive from this is worth THOUSANDS of dollars and we are paying NOTHING!

Thanks to Jim and his product we are seeing this thing take off"
