All in a day's work

At some point they get fed up.

They get tired of training client after client after client.

Yes, they love to help people.

But the decent moolah just isn't worth the 60 plus hour weeks.

They're exhausted.

They rarely take vacations.

They just don't enjoy life as much as they know they should.

They know there is more to life than work.

They know other trainers are making more and working less.

They know it's possible.

But something has been holding them back from making the switch.

Something has kept them from having more free time, more joy, more...more life.

They get fed up.

The pain becomes unbearable.

They choose to get out.

Or they choose to change.

"Other trainers are doing it", they think. "Why can't I?"

Happy Sunday!

- Jim

I could go on and on and on...

Yesterday I did an interview with Pat Rigsby on the Top 10 Business Mistakes Personal
Trainers Make.

#1 was the fact most trainers only do marketing when they have no clients.

If business history has taught us anything it's that you have a crappy business if you're only marketing when you're broke.

#5 we talked about the lack of a business plan of any kind.

Now I don't know about you, but seems to me I've heard the expression "fail to plan, plan to fail" more than once.

#7 took us to the topic of leverage.

The vast majority of trainers have no clue how to leverage their time, or others, to help them grow their business - and their freedom.

It's a crying shame.

Do any of these mistakes ring true for you?

Doesn't have to be that way.

Who loves ya? ;-)

Setting up DIGG account

Hey everyone,

Actually I'm just creating this post to see how blogs interact with my DIGG account.

Not on DIGG? You should be. I'll explain in tomorrow's newsletter.

Jim

If you talk the talk...

..you'd better walk the walk.

I've been talking about how powerful video newsletters are for a long time now.

I meant to jump on the bandwagon a long time ago, but things just kept creeping up. Mostly the lousy computer I was banging my head against the wall with.

That computer was dealt a final blow, so to speak.

I explain everything in this "make a long story short" VIDEO newsletter.

At the end of the day...

Just received this question for a more-than-satisfied http://HowToGetMoreClients.com customer.

****

Hi Jim,

First of all I'd like to say a thank you for the information that you send in the emails, I keep them all and read some of them again when I'm about to sit down and take action against some of my goals for the day. Very motivating and inspiring!

Also got Ultimate Sales kit a couple of months ago and that has also helped me to no end. While I thought I was pretty good at sales, the information has helped me convert even more clients but just as important to me, saved time by not doing long drawn out consultations.

Hell, I even convert the email queries by tackling them differently. A lot more to be implemented but progressing all the time.

I'd like to ask you a quick question as to where you stand on advertising your prices/packages on your website for PT services please. Do you think it is something you have to do, worth doing or to stay away from and by doing so concentrate on the service, USP's, pain etc and then getting into the numbers as part of the prospecting.

One of my thoughts is that you may deter a prospect contacting you because they get more influenced by the price than they ought to be when the exact same prospect could contact you via the website with no price information and not be deterred by the price because the sales meeting has worked it's magic.

Where do you stand on this, Jim.

Thanks again."

Michael Bach
Manchester, UK

JL: First, I'm very happy to see the Ultimate Sales Kit for Fitness Professionals kit is money in the bank for you.

And you've hit the nail on the head. The amount of time that kit saves you is worth a King's ransom.

Now, on to your question.

At the end of the day, the answer is, you have to test to see what works best for you.

Some trainers will testify until their blue in the face you MUST put your prices on your website to get rid of the tire-kickers.

Others will swear up and down you should NEVER have them on your site.

Personally, I think if your prices are in line with your competition you CAN have them on your site. But again, test and see.

At the same time, if your prices are WAY more than the competition your best bet will probably be to keep them off the site.

When in doubt, test and analyze the results.

When all is said and done, that is the ONLY way to know for sure.

Who loves ya? ;-)

Jim Labadie

Like night and day

You hear it over and over again:

"Just one little thing can turn your world upside down."

In this case, I mean upside down in a good way.

But it really is true. And it really is plain and simple.

One idea can take you from barely scraping by, to making moolah hand over fist.

But some people seem determined to reinvent the wheel.

Dustin Maher is NOT one of those people.

Dustin Maher is one of my http://HowToProfitWithBootCamps.com customers who is taking the world by storm.

The proof is in the pudding:

"Jim,

I just wanted to thank you for giving me the confidence and the tools to run outdoor bootcamps.

I purchased your Boot Camp Marketing program late spring and set a launch date of 6 weeks from the time I received it.

I decided to go big and open up 4 different camps for my first crack at bootcamps. I hired another trainer to do one of them and I did the other three. I decided to run my bootcamps in six week sessions and I am coming upon my final week of the first session.

The response has been amazing!

I have 40 paid members and they are all enjoying it greatly! I am opening up two more locations for my next session of boot camps that will start in just over a week.

My goal is to have 70 paid members for this coming session.

The tools that are in your program allowed me to get such a great turnout and helped me become the boot camp leader in Madison, Wisconsin!

It is great knowing I am helping so many people out and making about $140 an hour doing so!

I would highly recommend your program to people who are looking to change more lives and make more money doing it!"

Sincerely,
Dustin Maher

JL: Awesome job, Dustin. Hopefully this is just the wake-up call other fitness pros who were sitting on the fence needed.

Get with the program

Do you have any idea what would happen if you knew how to take your audience on an emotional roller coaster ride?

If you keep presenting the same ole facts and figures you're a glutton for punishment.

You see, if you take the time to:

Book the presentation

Prepare the presentation

Travel to the presentation

Give the presentation

Travel back from the presentation

Why would you let so much moolah fall through the cracks?

You could knock one out of the park and still not walk out with any paying clients.

While doing a great job of educating people about fitness is nothing to sneeze at, wouldn't you rather do that AND laugh all the way to the bank?

It's a piece of cake when you know what you're doing.

Makes personal training so easy

I often write these emails as reminders to myself.

When I'm a little "all over the place", and need to focus my efforts better, I come back to the 80/20 Rule.

Yes, the rule where 80% (or more) of your results come from 20% (or less) of your efforts.

Now here's the thing:

Most people, myself included, read something in a newsletter and completely ignore the advice.

Or we nod our head in agreement as we read it, tell ourselves "I need to do that, and THEN ignore it.

Please don't let that be the case today.

The 80/20 Rule is very much real.

I know you love what you do. But there are other things in life than work.

If you want to work less and enjoy the rest of your life more, then look at where you are spending your time each day.

And then apply the 80/20 rule to it.

Who loves ya? ;-)

Yours in prosperity,

Jim Labadie

PS - A perfect example of the 80/20 rule is selling to groups. Doesn't it make more sense to sell to 20, 30, 40, 50, 100 people or more, all at the same time?

The mirror workout

Have you ever taken a good look at yourself in the mirror?

Seriously.

Have you ever taken a step back and looked at your life as if you were someone else?

It's amazing what you'll see when you take the time.

One of the things you want to look at is what is accelerating OR preventing your success.

Oftentimes GUILT is one of the emotions which really holds us back.

So let's take a look at YOU right now. Get in front of the mirror and take a good look.

Imagine you're making 6 figures PER MONTH. Does it feel great?
Or does it make you feel guilty?

Would you feel bad because your mom and dad never made anywhere near that much?

Do you feel bad because there are so many people on the planet who will never come close to making a fraction of that?

Do you have feelings of unworthiness? In other words, you could NEVER be worthy of making that much moolah?

Emotions are what drive us.

I've had trainers write back to me after emails like this and complain they just want marketing advice.

But I'll tell you what: if you don't have your emotions pulling you in the right direction, well, you're temporarily screwed.

You need to get right with yourself before anything else.

Who loves ya? ;-)

Masterminds your dreams

I'm going to be writing a lot more about dreams.

Not enough trainers dream big enough.

They don't dream enough about the lifestyle THEY want to lead.

More and more trainers are creating businesses.

That's a good thing.

But there is something they miss:

The business exists to serve YOU.

You do NOT exist to serve the business.

You're not going to get anywhere without taking action.

But there's a very good chance you need to get some fresh air and start dreaming of MORE.

Here's a little exercise for you:

Imagine you work 10 hours a week and earn 6 figures PER MONTH.

Where would the moolah go?

What would you do with all that extra time?

What charity would you donate to?

Dreams are good for the subconscious mind. It can't tell what's real and what's not.

Dream bigger dreams.

And don't worry about where the moolah comes from. Just imagine the result.

Next time we'll talk about guilt and what it does to your dreams.

Who loves ya? ;-)

Yours in prosperity,

Jim Labadie

PS - Dreams are great. Combine 'em with action and they come true.

Ultimate Lifestyle

This uplifting message is brought to you by http://The-Carb-Rotation-Diet.com

As I've told you before, I used to work in a Tech Support job.

Man, was I one miserable SOB back then. Whenever I call a customer service line I do my absolute best to be super nice because I know from experience how awful it is to have to listen to problems and complaints all day.

Life's quite a bit different these days.

On Tuesday I went to the movies with Ryan Lee - before he heads back up North - to see The Promotion.

It's a good flick, highly recommend it. Kinda reminds me of the movie Election starring Ferris Bueller, er uh, I mean, Mathew Broderick.

In "The Promotion" the main characters are both vying for, you guessed it, the same job promotion. And the job is the head manager of a grocery store.

Not my idea of Ultimate Lifestyle, but that's not for me to judge.

Everybody's on their journey, on their path, so to speak. But I just wouldn't dig being the manager of a grocery store.

I guess somebody has to do it. I'm just glad it's not me.

When I was near the end of high school I had zero clue what I wanted to do with my life. So my mother and sister suggested I would make a terrific high school PE teacher and football coach.

And they were probably right. And there's nothing wrong with being either. One of the most influential men in the history of my life was my head football coach in HS. I'd be proud to be compared to him.

But it just wasn't for me. It wasn't MY Ultimate Lifestyle.

I pretty much live mine nowadays. Though it would be easier if I had that private jet I've been yearning for.

Mind you, I didn't get here overnight. Nope, it's taken me years. I just kept getting closer and closer, day by day.

What about you? Do you know what you want from life? Are you going after it? Do you feel guilty about it? Do you know I love ya?

Thought I'd slip that last one in.

Yours in prosperity,

Jim Labadie

PS - I've shared this one with you before, but http://The-Carb-Rotation-Diet.com kicks so much a@@ I figured I'd remind you.

"Thanks so much for http://The-Carb-Rotation-Diet.com

As a 16+ year veteran in the fitness industry I have to tell you I am actually surprised at the results my subscribers and clients are having with your eBook. So much in fact, I have to tell you about one of them.

One of my clients in particular has literally done it all. He tried the South Beach approach - couldn't stick with it long enough to get results.

Then he went to a "high end nutrition expert" who is also an MD. He had blood work done in addition to a complete profile of health history, current eating habits, goals etc. and what he got in return was a plan so complicated he had to worry about what type of lettuce he was eating in his salads!

Let's just say for very busy business man who works out at 5:30 am in order to get to the office on time - this diet plan failed before it even began.

This individual was and is doing everything right in terms exercise in an effort to lose those last 10 pounds. I introduced him to http://The-Carb-Rotation-Diet.com less than 3 weeks ago.

To my utter amazement he is only 2 pounds away from his target weight already! In fact he dropped 4 pounds the first week! Moreover he has totally embraced http://The-Carb-Rotation-Diet.com and feels he can absolutely stick to it 90% of the time...forever.

Thanks for putting this eBook together, Jayson. It's great to know exactly where I can send clients and subscribers to get credible, truthful diet advice that works! You've just made my job easier!

Gratefully,

Return on Investment

David Whitley is a Sr. RKC instructor one of the most respected Kettlebell experts on the planet.

David Whitley is the perfect example of a fitness professional with multiple streams of income.

David Whitley is one of my best customers who has LITERALLY spent thousands of dollars with my business.

Here is a look at his Return on Investment:

Boot camp classes make up about 60% of his total income. They take SIX hours of his time each week.

He also does small group sessions with 1-3 people. These sessions net him from $100-$200 per session.

David performs workshops and rakes in $250-$350 PER PERSON that attends.

Plus, he has multiple passive income streams including:

His own DVD series at http://RenegadeConditioningSecrets.com
(These are amazing)

He has a newsletter list so he is able to make good moolah from affiliate promotions.

Send Out Cards brings in residual income each month.

And of course, he sells Prograde.

David Whitley is part of the Cream of the Crop I wrote about yesterday.

But he isn't done yet. I'll bet you dollars to doughnuts he'll continue to invest in his business education and continue to take things to even higher levels.

You should follow his lead.

I want to thank you for all that you have done in helping me move toward living the dream. The house, the boost in income doing what I love, the Sr. RKC promotion, all that has been affected by what you have taught me and my improving ability to visualize and attract.

Thanks so much and I am looking forward to growth for all of us!"

Cream of the Crop

I'm VERY excited.

VERY.

I was on the phone with Pat Rigsby yesterday and we started to shape the outline of a new program that is going to raise the bar on everything for those of you who train adults.

I'm thinking it will be ready this fall.

It's going to require you to have a LOT of skin in the game.

It's going to be for those of you who have a burning desire to succeed.

We've gotten to the point where it is time to reward the most ambitious by delivering to them much more than a business.

We're taking it up ten notches.

This fall we will see the Cream of the Crop rise to the top in a whole new way.

I'm VERY excited. You should be, too.

One thing you MUST do when speaking

I'm often asked by trainers how to grow their newsletter list.

Well, one of the easiest ways is to make sure you pass around a sign up sheet during your speaking engagements.

I recommend you do it about half way through your talk. It's the perfect time because it should get back to by the time the talk ends.

AND they should be completely intrigued by your presentation and more than happy to receive a newsletter for even more of your "look better naked" insights.

Who loves ya? ;-)

Yours in prosperity,

Jim Labadie

PS - Yes, you can get people on your list during your talks. But why not get my http://AmazingFitnessPresentations.com program and leave with paying clients and boot campers, too?

Some Father's Day Love

It's Father's Day here in the United States, so I wanted to share some more of my story with you today.

My dad is a great guy. He's not the most talkative man. He's certainly not the most outgoing.

But he took care of three kids and his wife as best he could. We never wanted for anything. We weren't rich, but we were far from poor.

He put three kids through college without having to borrow a dime. He was a big part of the booster club for the high school football team when my brother and I played.

He spent a fortune on my sister's wedding. He doesn't take sh*t from anybody. He always took us on vacations.

But a lot of my dad's life was spent working in a business that he owned but certainly didn't love. And the stress and the constant commuting to New York City landed him in the hospital with a minor heart attack at age 45.

That was 1988. He's been fine ever since. He's been retired for a few years now. And he's much happier for it.

He's a great father. I just wish his life could have been a little easier. But if it had, well, maybe I wouldn't be here writing this message to you today.

I received emails from many of you in response to my grandmother's passing. One of them inspired me to write this one.

You should be proud as hell to be the kind of person my father is. But I only hope you're different in one way.

Do what you love to do. Please do what you love to do.

If you're not where you want to be right now that's ok.

Know what you want.

Make a reasonable plan to make it happen.

You don't have to drop everything.

Just move forward day after day.

Small steps lead to big results.

Happy Father's Day to all the dad's out there.

- Jim

Your future really does depend on this

It's a little difficult to convey through a text email how serious I am about this question.

What happens if your clients dry up?

Meaning, even with a great marketing plan and consistent leads there is always the chance clients just stop coming.

Well, for one thing you should have all of them on long-term contracts.

But you should also be creating multiple streams of income.

It's one of the reasons I harp on boot camps over and over and over and over...

Training groups allows you a so much more free time to create other revenue streams.

And multiple revenue streams pick up the slack when one of them isn't doing so great.

With more free time you could focus on:

- Creating info products and really learning how to make moolah online

- Or maybe learn all about Real Estate investing. And don't give me that crap about the housing market. People who know what they are doing - I'm not saying I'm one of them right now - make tons of dough in all kinds of markets.

- Or maybe a REPUTABLE network marketing company like Send Out Cards. (more on this soon)

- Or maybe your spouse or even kids has an amazing talent or knowledge you could capitalize on.

There are SOOO many ways to make moolah.

Yes, you need to follow your heart and what you are passionate about.

But you also - I believe - want to strive for true financial freedom and security.

Be smart. Think smart. Do smart.

Who loves ya? ;-)

Jim Labadie

Lands speaking engagements with ease

Thanks to all of you for all the kind words about my grandmother. There's no way I could get back to all of you personally, but please know my family and I greatly appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers.

********

A quick tip for today as well.

I'm often asked how to land speaking engagements.

Well, like anything else, if you're good, you're going to get referrals.

I never once gave a fitness presentation to a networking group or club that did not result in a referral to speak to at LEAST one other place.

So, again, like anything else, just get started asking people you know about places you can speak at. Just ONE will open doors to countless others.

Who loves ya? ;-)

Yours in prosperity,

Jim Labadie

PS - And if you actually want to turn those talks into serious moolah you should take this piece of advice, too. Get my http://AmazingFitnessPresentations.com program and see what happens.

Life lessons from a 92 year old grandma

My Grandma McMullen passed away on Monday. The funeral is today here in New Jersey where I am writing this to you.

It's been a hectic week, but I wanted to take time to share something.

Whenever I would call Gram she would always end the conversation the same way.

"I think about you all the time, Jimmy. I'm so proud of you for moving to FL and living your life the way you want to."

And it always made me feel terrific.

So the mesage today is short and sweet from a woman who lived to be 92 years old.

Life your life the way YOU want to.

Don't let anyone keep you from your dream.

Not your family.

Not your friends.

Not anybody.

Love ya,

Jim Labadie

Not pretty, but super effective

In April of 2005 Ryan Lee, Debbie Cohen and I put on our overnight seminar called Fitness Prosperity.

And even though it was about 2:00 in the morning we still had a woman near the front row complain that she doesn't like long sales copy.

It's not the first time we'd heard it.

I just heard about it again from a reader the other day.

According to her I'd have a better shot of selling something to her without it.

While I'd love to have her as a customer, I'd much rather have the thousands of others that have read my copy and actually made a purchase from me.

And I guess it doesn't bother women that much because Jayon Hunter and I are selling the crap out of our http://CarbRotationDiet.com program and 73% of our customers are women.

It's really simple.

I'm never going to tell you a long sales letter site it pretty.

But I am going to tell you they work. And they work really, really well.

They always have and they always will.

Who loves ya? ;-)

PS - Speaking of Ryan Lee, his http://Body-Bot.com software is going up in price at midnight tonight. Pretty sure it's going up to $67, but it might be $97.

PPS - And in case you haven't looked into it already, he's got something like 100 pre-made workouts you can use with it. Pretty cool stuff. http://Body-Bot.com

Celebrate and make moolah at the same time

One of the things I learned the hard way was how to have a sale online.

Most of the time I've tied a special promo into my birthday or a holiday or something.

But one time I just had a sale for the heck of it.

And I'll tell ya, I didn't sell jack squat.

Whenever you have some kind of sale you MUST tie it into something.

Meaning you have to give people a good reason to believe in your sale other than you want to make some fast bux.

In April our Prograde Pros made a killing with our One Year Anniversary sale.

And we expect they are going to do great with this week's Father's Day promo as well.

For the One Year we put everything on sale.

This time, so it makes sense, we only put our Men's VGF 25+ product on sale because it is the only one that is 100% specific to men/dads.

Anyway, if you ever decide to have a special offer on ANYTHING you sell, make sure you tie it in with a special occasion of some sort.

Trust me, you'll be glad you did.

Prograde Father's Day Sale

As you probably know, this coming Sunday is Father's Day. And while it's the day to celebrate and honor father's, it's also a good time to make sure they're taking care of themselves so they'll be around for many more.

One of the simple things they can do to take better care of themselves is to eat more fruits and vegetables.

But who doesn't know that already, right?

Well, most everyone knows it, but hardly anyone does it.

Especially busy fathers who tell themselves they have more pressing things to do than worry about whether or not they've eaten the recommended servings of fruits and veggies.

Fortunately, some men make it a point to supplement their nutritional needs by taking a multi-vitamin each day.

That's good news, right?

Well, yes and no.

While I do applaud anyone for taking positive steps when it comes to their health and well-being, the products they are using aren't always the best.

Most synthetic vitamins you buy at the grocery store aren't exactly created with the best ingredients.

For one thing: They're synthetic. Meaning they are man made. And research has shown recently that these vitamins created in labs aren't absorbed as well as those created in nature.

And many products don't have the amounts of ingredient and nutrients in them that they claim to on the label!

But don't worry, because I have some really good news for you and all the dads out there.

Loaded Steakhouse Burger

Every morning, at some point, I drive south on US Hwy 1 to my office.

And right next to my building you'll find a McDonald's and Burger King.

This Friday I saw a big sign on the BK billboard for the Loaded Steakhouse Burger.

Have you ever seen the Mel Brooks comedy "History of the World, Part 1?"

There's a scene where Mel Brooks is fighting Roman soldiers.

"I'm figthin' with cardboard!", he screams after his sword and shield are chopped in half.

Obviously, it's much funnier when you see the actual scene and the cardboard prop he was using to defend himself.

Anyway, to the point:

I don't know what the hell is in a Loaded Steakhouse Burger, but I'm sure it ain't good.

Everywhere you turn your prospect is getting hit over the head with marketing messages from major corporations for 1,000 calorie burgers.

And most trainers are walking around stapling flyers to trees telling the few people who will actually look at them all about how many certifications they have.

In other words, if you suck at marketing you're fighting with cardboard.

But don't worry, they can always pass on the Loaded Steakhouse Burger and go to McDonald's. They'll save a few hundred calories eating a Big Mac instead.

Quick Sunday advice

I'm often asked by trainers who have created an info-product what the next step is.

In other words, just like most trainers, they aren't doing any marketing.

They've just created a business and started praying people would miraculously show up to give them some green.

Ummm. Don't think that's going to work too well.

In the case of an info-product you can make marketing easier by having affiliates do a lot of the promotion for you.

But to get good affiliates you have to make their life easy.

That's why Jayson Hunter and I have gone to great lengths to build our affiliate program.

"I have lost 14 inches and 21 lbs. overall and two complete dress sizes!!!

I am not so winded after climbing stairs, I sleep better at night, my old age aches and pains are not so noticable to me, and I smile much more often now. I wish I had met you years ago.

Yours is the only diet program I have ever read that included food that I actually like. Which is why I tried yours in the first place. Other diets are basically the same; cardboard for breakfast, plastic for lunch and a few shrubs and weeds for dinner (only kidding).

But yours included foods I like to eat and if I want to eat the same breakfast every day for a week, I do, but you give me more choices and I am not limited to fish and vegetables that I don't like.

I am a 61 year old great grandmother who has 5 daughters and 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and my only motivation was to get out of bed and go back to bed every day until I was introduced to you. You have become family to myself and my family. We are now more connected to being healthy with each other thanks to you

Thanks so much for your encouragement, your interest in helping us, and your concern about how we are doing. I never expected that. I am very pleased I started all of this with you and I am talking others into joining as well.

God Bless you, Jayson, for your caring and concern."

"The 'secrets' to fat loss have always been a combination of cardiovascular exercise, nutrition, and resistance exercise. For most trainers - professionally, practically and legally - a solid nutrition program has always been the missing link to their client's success. Jayson Hunter is the difference between a good program and a fantastic program".

This put serious dough in his pocket

I had just spoken for twenty minutes about the basics of fat loss.

The exercise.

The nutrition.

The planning.

Again, the basics. Enough to give any person a simple understanding of how to get results.

And then I asked if there were any questions.

"That's great, but I just want a flatter stomach. How do I do that?", she said pointing to her belly.

Boom. Done. No more.

Never again would I take questions at the end of a speaking engagement.

Never.

Know why?

Because it doesn't lead to results like this:

"I can and can attest to the effectiveness of your advice.

I spend most of my time now booking speaking gigs, because like the guy who sent you that testimonial, every time I speak I seem to average right around $5,000 to $6,000. I now book them up for months in advance, and try to average at least one gig per week."

Wounded pride, wounded wallet

I received this email from a customer lately and debated how I would share the message with you.

My pride...

My ego...

...well, they have both gotten in the way of my success in the past.

Like anyone else, there are times when I think I "know it all."

They aren't frequent.

But that doesn't make it ok.

We all have our weak spots...our weak moments...

Don't let your pride and ego interfere with the realization of your dreams.

This email means a great deal to me. It's one of the best I've ever received.

"Hello Jim,

I was reading Pat Rigsby's email today and decided to tell you a few things.

I bought a couple of your products in Feb 2007. Thought they were sh*t.

I never returned the products because I thought I could use them to create a better product.

Since then I have built a very successful business in one of London's poorest communities (Woolwich). Several other (starving) trainers wanted to know how I do it.

I told them I have a system.

I told them I never give away the store.

I tell them I have a velvet rope approach to sales.

I tell them about my boot camps.

I tell them about my semi-private training.

I tell them I make time to work on my business not in my business.

I tell them about my news letters and quote of the day.

I tell them about working my lists.

I tell them about relationships and Send Out Cards.

But I never told them about YOU.

Why ? Because I did not want to give credit.

My ego wanted them to know what a brilliant businessman I was.

I did not want the competition to know my secret weapon.

At first I did not get it. So I thought the products were sh*t.

You are the primary reason for my success. Thank you very, very much.

Many trainers do not get it or their ego gets in their way.

Thanks again for everything."

6225 smackaroos in twenty minutes

It makes me kinda sad to know personal trainers receive such awful advice from fitness industry associations when it comes to marketing.

ESPECIALLY public speaking.

Here's just a few of the mistakes they teach you:

1 - Give handouts

Nobody really cares about handouts. In fact, all they really do is distract your audience. It gives them something to do instead of listen.

2 - Hand out business cards at the end

Hey, if your goal is to decorate the meeting room's trash can with your business card, then by all means, pass yours out to everyone.

3 - Give away the store

Ummm. Why would you tell an audience who came to see you at no charge everything they need to know to obtain results? Isn't that what you get paid for?

So instead of listening to these well-meaning know nothings why not use advice that delivers results like this:

"Jim,

I bought your http://AmazingFitnessPresentations.com program, and in my first appearance after buying the CD, I spoke to 28 computer programmers at a company called EPIQ Systems (a computer software company).

The presentation lasted 20 minutes, and at the end of the presentation, 25 of them signed up for our 12 week corporate boot camp...and I walked out with a check for $6,225.00.

I guess you could say it was a pretty good return on my investment. Thanks!"

The billyunaires do this to create wealth

On a hot August day down in South Florida last summer I was talking about business innovations with a friend of mine.

We were relaxing on his back porch drinking a beer when the the conversation turned to the Internet.

"All those guys making billyuns on the Internet are just lucky," he said.

I just smiled.

"Well, there might be some to it. But the real key is innovation," I replied. "Some people follow the trends. Others create them."

I'm not too sure my buddy liked my thinking. Most people would much rather believe wealthy people got lucky. I guess it helps them sleep at night.

I think you can look at it one of two ways:

1 - Be like most people and resent the "lucky" innovators.

2 - Congratulate the innovators on their success and aspire to achieve the same level of wealth through mutual benefit and integrity.

I choose option #2.

The right way to look at it

The right way to look at it

I received this email in response to my latest newsletter last week about promoting the "look better naked" theme:

"Jim,

While I agree with you 100% that people are MUCH more concerned about how they look than their health there is always a nagging problem inherent in this.

Yes, there can be some health benefits to the "fat melting" but as I have said thousands of times it is very easy to be very fit but also very unhealthy.

This attitude is something I have to learn how to ignore if I want to get anywhere. I have gotten to the point where I just say to my self "well it's their loss hope they enjoy a good looking corpse."

This may be an unconscious thing going on with many of us in this industry."

Robert Troch

JL: Thanks very much for writing in, Robert. That means you take the time to read these emails of mine!

I don't disagree with YOU either.

Here's the thing: Get them in the door. Get the client in your life. You can't do anything for them if they won't hire you in the first place.

Sell them on the Look Better Naked stuff. Then do you absolute best to change their life as much as possible.

Once they really know you, like you and trust you, it will be much easier.

Even then, there is only so much you can do.

So do the best you can and learn to let the rest go.

Oh, and the way I see it, this is a GOOD problem for trainers to have. It shows you really care. And that's never a bad thing.

PPS - One of many recent Prograde testimonials:

"Jim--

I've been using Prograde about a month. I train hard five days a week and recovery time is really important. My recovery has been improving thanks to your products, especially Prograde Workout.

My overall performance is improving, but I notice it most in my heavier lifts. I got my first barbell shoulder press with 170 lb yesterday, plus my first unilateral dumbbell high pulls with 100 lb (each arm). Though I know many people will get heavier lifts than mine, I am thrilled!

I have a goal of being able to do a 100 lb dumbbell clean & press with one arm by my 58th birthday, which is in August, and I believe I will make it.

Your excellent products definitely are helping move ahead faster."

Makes writing newsletters easy

I'm often asked how I come up with new material for all these newsletters o' mine.

Actually, I've got TOO many ideas. I usually respond to those trainers by telling them I could write ten a day!

Just about everything that happens in your life can become a newsletter.

Read an article on fitness. That's a newsletter.

Watch TV and see a commercial for diet pills. That's a newsletter.

Take a trip to Disney and see for yourself just how fat people from all over the country are. That's a newsletter.

Go to the grocery store and make mental notes of the foods people are buying. That's a newsletter.

Your life will give you all the ideas you could ever need.

Eliminates stress in 3 different ways

After several online and offline discussions with trainers this week I came to realize the importance of this advice.

I've written it before, but it's obvious to me I need to hammer these points home more.

1 - If you want to be successful - and I mean freakin' ridiculously successful - you need to be decisive. Over thinking things will get you nowhere.

2- Whatever IT is, IT doesn't need to be perfect. IT only needs to be good enough.

3- Do NOT listen to people who don't know what they are talking about. If they aren't playing the game then they can't possibly know how BIG you can win.

There are some trainers who are going to read this newsletter and realize I'm talking about them. I only write it because I want them to succeed far more than they know.

Jim Labadie

PS - I've been meaning to share this with you for awhile now. It means a lot to me.

"Hi Jim,

I just wanted to let you know that it is all because of your knowledge and experience in fitness and marketing from all of your products that I purchased that allowed me to become a 'six figure trainer!'

I love you man!"
